Type Locality and Naming
By the Tulebay stream, northern slope of the N. Nuratau ridge. P.N. Podkopaev et al. in 1961 (1964); (166, p. 176). Stratotype on the left bank of the Tulebay say.
Synonym: Tulebay Suite, Тулебайская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Alternation of gray, dark gray, and black, massive, sometimes thick- and medium-bedded dolomites with transitions to dolomitized limestones, locally coral-amphiporoid. Thickness 360 m.
At the base - basal horizon - conglomerates, gravelites with transitions to quartz sandstones.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It lies transgressively with azimuthal and angular unconformity on the Karatau Fm (= Karatash Fm of Merishkor?). According to R.R. Usmanov et al. (1999), it is conformably overlies the Kichar Fm in Shokhetau [Note: initial translation had “underlies Kichar”, but assume from the relative ages of the two formations that “overlies” was meant.]
Upper contact
It is overlain with erosion by middle Devonian limestones (Shokhetau and Merishkor regions) or middle Carboniferous (Mikhin-Daristan region) (165; 443; 460).
Regional extent
Northern and southern slopes of the North Nuratau ridge.

Fossils
Contains tabulates - Favosites ex gr. intricatus Barr., F. ex gr. nikiforovae Chekh., Pachyfavosites zeravschanicus Kim, Striatopora cf. tschichatschevi Peetz.; brachiopods - Spirigerina supramarginalis Khalf., Protathyris praecursor Kozl. and others, characterizing the Early Devonian Lochkovian age of the deposits.
